Tip: Hints for making PDFs AccessibleThere's
a lot more to Accessibility than pushing a button and adding a little alt. text
for images. Few document authors or editors - or even software developers - really
bother to understand what accessibility is all about. As a result, real-world
results are often poor. If
you've tried to check or manage the accessibility status of a PDF file, then you've
run into the Accessibility Checker in Acrobat 6.0 Professional. Many labor under
the false impression that "passing" this Checker means your file is
accessible, and even compliant with Section 508. This is rarely the case - and
doesn't really address the key question of usability at all. To
see how your document will appear to an blind user, simply go File-Save-As and
change the file-type to "Accessible Text". Examine the results - and
think again about whether you could realistically describe your document as Accessible. Examine
the Tags created by the Add Tags to Document command to ensure that the text flow
of the document makes sense, to check links and other features, and to ensure
that you've accurately represented all elements of the content. Here's
a neat little Tip to smooth your way to Tags proficiency... From the View menu,
open Navigation Tabs, and select Tags. Then, open the Bookmarks panel. Drag and
drop the Tags tab onto the Bookmarks panel. Now your Tags are as easy to access
as Bookmarks! Learn

PDF Imaging Done RightScanners
have become cheap these days, and many office photocopy machines offer scanning
as well. Why would anyone send out their scanning project rather than in-sourcing?
There's
a wide range of content you really can scan effectively yourself. Some of the
new equipment and software are well suited to quick ad-hoc scans, basic filing
and other rote office tasks. It's when you need a professional polish that a professional
service bureau may be well advised. DSI's
document imaging services are available to exceed your expectations for projects
ranging from 100 pages to 100,000 or more. Our Archive Grade approach means that
we deliver a quality level suitable for publications, manuals, marketing materials
and library projects. We're not your typical document imaging company, and we
can prove it. What
does it cost? Send us a sample, and we'll get you some options within 48 hours. Learn
