CASE
STUDY: iCiX
Document
Solutions, Inc. has provided interactive forms services
since 1998. It is, however, only in the past couple
of years that the technology's potential has gained
recognition within large numbers of businesses.
iCiX
serves diverse communities of quality assurance and
regulatory professionals within industry and government.
iCiX, the International Compliance Information
Exchange, is an Australian company with satellite
offices in North America, Europe and Japan. iCiX is
bringing the advantages of PDF forms technology to supply
chain management (SCM) with an emphasis on solutions
for vendor compliance.
Assuring
vendor compliance with purchaser specifications for
quality control, transportation, personnel management
and other issues demands a sophisticated understanding
of business processes. At the same time, the application
must be very simple to use, since compliance forms may
be completed only occasionally by far-flung vendors.
To
assist iCiX in developing intelligent PDF forms, iCiX
chose Document Solutions, Inc. for the breadth and depth
of experience the company offers in PDF application
development.
The
iCiX process allows their clients total flexibility
in developing the ideal information packaging and routing
solution for their compliance requirements. Quality
assurance, a special focus for iCiX, presents many complex
challenges in workflow development, and iCiX helps their
clients conquer these applications with "intelligent"
PDF documents.
"Leveraging
the potential of PDF technology within our client's
workflows came naturally," says iCiX North America's
COO, Paul Horan. Theres really nothing else
quite like it. PDF files allow us to move a great deal
of validation, dynamic data- gathering and other functions
to the desktop, which radically simplifies and improves
the process when the data is posted to the server.
Document
Solutions, Inc. has played a key role for iCiX in designing
and implementing the on-board logic required
in iCXs forms. Based on client specifications,
DSI develops and delivers ready to go PDF
forms that plug right into the iCiX web-based application.
Partnering with DSI gives iCiX a powerful edge
in bringing our compliance solutions to our customers
in a timely manner, says iCiXs Horan. Their
deep experience with PDF allows us to service our clients
demanding requirements better and faster than ever.

PDF/UA
meets, makes progress towards a standard for Accessible
PDF
The
AIIM-sponsored PDF/Universal Accessibility (PDF/UA)
Standards Committee met over May 17-18 in Philadelphia,
at AIIM's 2006 Conference and Trade Show.
Chaired
by DSI CEO Duff Johnson a lively discussion ensured
between representatives from Adobe Systems, Appligent,
Design Science and a variety of other experts from within
and without government.
PDF/UA
has made substantial progress over the past 5 months.
Beginning with the 1.6 PDF specification, PDF/UA is
in the process of reviewing each subsection of the specification
relating to accessibility.
While
meetings and committee documents are not available to
the public, knowledgeable individuals may join the PDF/UA
committee in Voting or Observer status, based upon participation.
Those
joining PDF/UA gain access to the Committee's Listserv,
as well as the PDF/UA Wiki, where meeting agendas, minutes,
and working documents reside. The agendas and minutes
of each meeting are made public as their are accepted
by the Committee.
If
you're interested in contributing to making PDF content
more accessible, please join us. Email Renee Georges
at AIIM to join the Listserv, and email Duff Johnson
to join the PDF/UA Wiki.
