Solutions, Inc. 10 years old this month!
Little
did we know, in the earliest years of the internet,
that we would still be tinkering with the PDF format
10 years later. And yet, here we are, and still going
strong.
In
March, 1996, DSI opened it's doors wide on Duff Johnson's
dining-room table. We had 1 scanner, 3 computers, plus
Adobe Acrobat 2.1 and Acrobat Capture 1.01. The game-plan
was simple - figure out what people would pay for using
this stuff, and provide it.
Back
in that day, PDF files were used largely for moving
files from publisher to press. DSI saw an electronic
document format, and we applied the available PDF tools
accordingly.
As
one of a very, very few such service bureaus at the
time, Document Solutions saw more than our fair share
of innovative projects. We digitized a comprehensive
service, installation and maintenance library for Olympus
America's medical division in 1997. We scanned the United
Nations yearbooks and produced a CD-ROM collection for
the Secretariat in 1998. We also performed the world's
first large-scale PDF forms implementation in 1998,
adding form-fields to 30,000 pages of insurance applications
for the company that's now insure.com
As
Adobe Systems added new capabilities to PDF and to Acrobat,
Document Solutions created services to assist our clients
in integrating this technologies into their new electronic
document workflows.
After
10 years, Document Solutions has racked up experience
in virtually every PDF use-case.
Many
other companies now offer some of the services DSI pioneered
in the mid-nineties. DSI now specializes in deploying
our experience and skill-sets in the service of PDF
applications in a wide variety of situations, from business-processes
to publishing, accessibility and interactivity.
We
wish to extend a big "thank you" to every
client of Document Solutions, Inc. It is a point of
pride for us that every client has been satisfied or
more than satisfied with the service and advice their
received.

a new partnership with Strategic Office Solutions
Document
Solutions, Inc. is pleased to announce a partnership
with Strategic Office Solutions, of San Francisco, California.
Strategic
Office Solutions will enable DSI to dramatically increase
our volume imaging and document conversion capacity
while reducing costs to our clients. At the same time,
SOS gains from DSI's advanced PDF know-how to better
serve their legal community client-base.
It's
an interesting mix of capabilities," said DSI CEO

reduce costs while actually expanding the capacity and
thus the range of services DSI can offer."

As
of April, 2006, DSI's west-coast operations facility
will be co-located with Strategic Office Solutions in
San Francisco at their 235 Montgomery St location.
