Announcing
Reflow Optimization Services
for PDF content
Document
Solutions, Inc., the leader in professional services
for PDF content, announces the immediate availability
of Reflow Optimization Services for PDF.
Many
low-vision and other disabled users read their PDFs
by virtue of Reader's Reflow option, which allows users
to set a comfortable zoom level and have the text adjust
to their window. Other assistive devices and software
cannot read tags in PDF files, and are dependant on
the reading-order of the content. In all cases, DSI's
Reflow Optimization service dramatically improves the
document's readability.
Responding
to a growing need to ensure high quality reflow of PDF
content for use on mobile devices, Document Solutions
extended our existing expertise in tagging PDF files
to the content level itself. Adobe Reader for PocketPC,
Palm OS and Symbian OS all use Reflow to optimize the
viewing of PDF files for their small screens.
While
Reflow may be enabled in a PDF through the "Add
Tags" command in Acrobat Professional, only the
simplest documents will reflow correctly without at
least some tweaking. Most documents, especially books,
manuals, brochures and other documents that are especially
suited for use on PDAs, require additional manual optimization
and validation before they are "ready for prime
time".
Reflow
Optimization is quoted on an individual per- page basis.

It's
not for every PDF. But if maximizing accessibility,
or a high-quality experience on mobile devices is important
to your application, then you should know that it's
not only possible, it's also cost-effective, and that
Document Solutions is here to help.

Solutions Enhances Accessibility Content
To
help visitors understand the issues surrounding PDF
accessibility, we've recently given our site a bit of
a makeover.
We've
added new resources, a number of articles, and selected
links to a variety of external information sources.
Now totaling over 115 pages, the DSI website is a valuable
resource in it's own right.
We've
also added content to better describe Document Solutions'
services for Section 508 compliance and PDF accessibility
generally, including our new service: Reflow Optimization.
The
site also includes demonstration PDF files, including
"before" and "after" comparisons
of accessible text.
Back
issues of our monthly informational newsletter, "PDF
News and Tips", are also available from the DSI
website.
The
History of Document Solutions, Inc.
Document
Solutions was born on March, 1996 on a living-room table
in Oakland, California. Within three months we had an
office space and were busy scanning to PDF.
Within
the year, we expanded from simple imaging and began
to focus on the needs of publishers and libraries. We
added interactivity features to PDF files, and began
to create collections for sale and distribution on disc.
In
1997 we invented MultiResolution PDF to service publications
with color and grayscale images with the smallest possible
file-size at the highest possible image quality.
In
1998 we added forms development to our services, and
performed one of the first massive forms deployments
for a major insurance broker. We took on projects with
the United Nations and the World Bank, and became a
leader in the electronic document services industry.
In
1999 we began to experiment with tagging PDFs for accessibility.
In 2001, Document Solutions became the first company
in the world to offer Section 508 compliance and accessibility
enhancement services for PDF content.
Since
2001, DSI has continued to innovate for our clients.
Today, we offer the most complete set of professional
electronic document services for PDF content available.
Visit our website to learn more about us, and how we
can help you get the most from your PDF files!
