Applications That Do Not Directly Generate Tagged PDF
- With Adobe Acrobat installed most applications on a personal computer can create PDF files. The Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional applications install a print driver that allows users to print directly to PDF. From the source application a user will print the file to PDF using File>Print or the Ctrl + P keyboard shortcut. From the Print dialog, users should select Adobe PDF (See "Selecting Adobe PDF as the Printer Output)..
- Instead of creating a paper copy of the file, this action results in a PDF document that is untagged. This process typically generates an untagged PDF file which is described as a legacy PDF file. The techniques for adding accessible attributes to a legacy PDF would apply (See "Step 5: Determine If the PDF File is a Legacy PDF File).
