Step 7: Determine if the PDF File is Properly Tagged

The easiest way to determine if the PDF file has been properly tagged is to use the TouchUp Read Order Tool - Advanced > Accessibility > Touchup Reading Order....The Touch Up Reading Order Tool divides a tagged page into shaded segments. Each segment is numbered indicating the read order of the item on the page. You can also verify the read order of items on the page by displaying the order panel from the Touch Up Read Order Tool. You may also have the hints for repair on display on the right hand side of the document where the How To panel normally appears (See Figure 2 - 24 Touch Up Reading Order Page Indicator) .

If the reading order as indicated by the numbered sequence of elements in the page view and items in the order panel is not satisifactory, you can change the sequence of items in the Order Panel to reflect the proper reading sequence for the page by sliding Order Panel items up or down into their proper sequences (See Figure 2 - 25 Reording Items with the Order Panel) .
