Conventions Used in This Tutorial

This tutorial uses a number of conventions to make it easier to use:

Hypertext Links
Hypertext links are used in this tutorial. They appear in text that is bold and blue.
Keystrokes
This tutorial uses certain conventions regarding keystrokes and mouse actions.
Modifier Keys
Sometimes keyboard commands involve the use of modifer keys. Typically the Alt key and the Ctrl key on Windows. Modifier keys are keys which by pressing them alter or modify the normal behavior of the keystrokes that follow. Popular modifer keys on the Windows platform include the Alt, Cntrl, and Shift keys. Sometimes this tutorial will also make reference to an Accelerator key which is a keyboard shortcut for a menu command that an application uses. Keystroke combinations for commands and shortcuts that use Modifier Keys are indicated in this tutorial with a plus sign between the modifer and the action key. So for example, the keystroke combination for copying items to the Windows clipboard is to hold down the Ctrl key followed by the "C" key. This action would be represented as Ctrl +C in this tutorial. Keyboard shortcuts will appear in bold text in this tutorial.
Mouse Movement
Click means to press and release a mouse button. Press means to hold down a mouse button or keyboard key. Press and Drag means to hold down the mouse button while moving the mouse pointer to another location on the screen.
Menu Commands
The order in which menu commands are selected is indicated by a right angle bracket (>). The notation used to indicate how a user would select the PDF Setup dialog from within FrameMaker would be written as follows: Format > Document > PDF Setup. This notation means you first select the Format menu, then select the Document sub menu, and finally choose PDF Setup. All menu commands are also written in Boldface type. The results of a user following this notation are indicated in Figure 1 - 1
Figure 1 - 1 Menu Selection Indicated by the Notation: Format > Document > PDF Setup
